Chat Rooms

  • Cued Speech Chat Room
  • DeafChat.com
  • Deafkids.com - contains a monitored chatroom just for deaf and HH kids, age 17 and below. Itıs free and open 24 hours a day. Deaf/HH kids from the U.S. and abroad are invited to stop by. To ensure the safety of all visitors, the DeafKids.com chatroom uses a log system. Records are kept of all visitors. Thereıs also a filter system to protect kids against unacceptable language (such as profanity, sexual slang, vulgar insults, and racial/ethnic slurs.) If any visitor types in an unacceptable word, itıs automatically changed to a designated substitute word before it appears online.

Newsgroups

  • alt.relationships.deaf-hearing
  • alt.society.deaf
  • alt.support.hearing-loss - Support group for hearing impaired
  • alt.support.tinnitus - Discusses Tinnitus.
  • bionet.audiology - Newsgroup for audiologists or audiology related questions. There is also a web site that contains archives for this newsgroup. You can visit that site with this link: Bionet.audiology Web site
  • bit.listserv.deaf-l This newsgroup mirrors the DEAF_L listserve. If you try to post here, it only goes to the newsgroup, not to the members of the group. If you want to post to the group, you must join. Use the information in the Listserve section below.
  • UK.people.deaf is an unmoderated Internet newsgroup for discussion and announcements related to deafness and surrounding issues. You certainly don't have to be deaf to read or contribute to this newsgroup, nor do you have to be in the UK, although the topics of discussion should be of interest to people reading the newsgroup in the UK

Pen Pals

  • Making New Friends - A Pen Pal listing from the National Deaf Education Network and Clearinghouse
  • International Tinnitus/Meniere's Pen-pal Support Network - This one isn't online (unless you count the e-mail address), but since there aren't many other resources for Pen Pals, I'm going to go ahead and put it here. Anyone interested in joining the International Tinnitus/Meniere's Pen-pal Support Network please send e-mail to LCherka1@tampabay.rr.com
